kicked out ..what do i do with my 135 reef.

im moving to the MT.s from the bayarea in CA. i would like to know the best ways to move my 135 reef about 4 hours away. and what should i do to deal with the extream cold as it snows in the mts and some times it can get over 100 in the summer any ideas would be very helpfull thank you!

I work part-time on a loading dock and I have moved all kinds of extremely fragile equipment over the years. I would suggest buying some 2X4s and styrofoam and building a crate, or at least a frame for the tank. Line the bottom of with ample styrofoam.

Another option is to contact a moving company to do the move. It will cost a few bucks, but they do that type of work for a living. Last but not least, they have insurance. That may be a better way to go than DIY.

I had to move from seattle to the bay area in the middle of winter and took my reef with me. I lost a few snails. Here's how I did it.

Moving my reeftank

I had a 20gal with 35W of NO for a while--I did fine with mushrooms, polyps and xenia, thought the polyps lost a lot of color. The key is going to be placement. I found that I had to keep everything pretty high up in the tank. If your mushrooms look like they're reaching for more light, then move them higher up.

If you do ok with those, try some other softies. You might be able to keep a bubble coral alive, but I doubt it would really thrive. Another watt/gal or 2 would go a long way.

Something to consider: you can run a powerfilter for a week or so before you tear the tank down to get a bacteria culture started on a biowheel. Then, if you have to set the tank up in a hurry, you don't have to worry so much about spiking the chemistry.
