today when I was feeding my snowflake eel, he tragicly mistook a huge bristleworm for the food.
it was horrific to see him charging and jerking in any direction trying to stop the pain

now he's rubbing his head on all the rocks.

I have a clown that had a bristle beard one morning a few months ago. It was gone a couple of days later. No ill effects.

Can't speak for eels, but I had a royal gramma that would get a mouthful of bristles all the time after trying to snack on bristleworms. They always disappeared on their own after a day or so and the fish was fine.
