Hi all,
Last week I added a Purple colt coral, which I bought from a reputable LFS. From the day I put it in this coral has never stood straight up. I noticed last night that it seems to have a "cut" near it's base and it was leaking some kind of milky fluid. I moved it to another spot, a little higher in the tank, and less flow.
The tank is a 150, THere are about 260 of LR. The only other things in the tank are a green mushroom, royal gramma, bicolored angel, and two damsels. My water parameters are normal. The calcium is around 400. The alk is pretty high. Ph is 8.3. Salinity is 1.22. Also the tank is lit by 640 VHO, 3 10k and one actinic.(I know i shouls add another atininc, the one I had died and I haven't had a chance to buy one so I just stuck another 10k I had.)
So is this guy dying?

Seriously, I'm not sure what is happening to your colt..they usually sorta disintegrate..just shred apart I believe when they are dying. I'm sorry I can't be of more help.

Give it time. Leathers can sometime deflate for a period of a week or longer.

Salinity is 1.22

Natural sea water near reefs is usually 35 ppt salinity, or 1.0265 specific gravity @ 78F I would raise the salinity gradually over the next week or two to 1.025 at least. Fish can tolerate lower salinity, but corals do better at close to NSW levels.

Not sure about the milky stuff. Especially coming out of a limp coral.

I have a colt that I have sliced and diced and glued and rubberbanded and sewed into and stuck with tooth pics. All the torture I have put this guy through to get the frags to stick to rocks and I haven't had one peice die yet. I would say just make sure there is a moderate flow to keep it free of slime and let it be. They are very hardy and I hope it will snap out of it. I put my cuttings in a ten gallon tank to heal and it only hase a small PC on it. (18 watts I think) And they do fine.

Hope it makes it
