This open brain is blue green in the middle, and salmon color around the margin. This morning I see that some areas around the margin are not opaque, they are transparent. Does this mean it's in trouble? I'm worried that it isn't getting food. I feed live brine shrimp and Tahitian Blend squirted into the tank through the pump.

Is it a new brain or one that has been in your system a long time. How is the expansion compared to when you had looked at it previously. Sometimes if they super expand they can become somewhat transparent.. but.. if it's a new purchase, it may be slightly bleached.. I've seen that alot the last few months, especially with the red trachs. They can also bleach due to improper acclimation to strong halide.

Are you feeding anything more "solid" than brine? You might try feeding chunks of fresh shrimp or other seafood. I just gently lay the shrimp on our open brain- you should notice the presence of several "mouths". The shrimp is then engulfed (slowly) and devoured. I usually feed it once or twice a week. If it is not hungry, it does not eat the shrimp and kind "pushes" it off.

Don't know if that's the problem, but it's still probably a good idea to try feeding it more.

It doesn't look really bleached to me.. the tentacles are a sign that it's hungry, why not try and feed it like the prev. poster suggested, they certainly like to eat. Pretty much anything meaty will work.. you may have to fight off any cleaner shrimp untill it's ingested it tho.

Thanks for the advice. I bought a few raw shrimp at the market and sliced off a couple of small pieces for the OBs two openings. It took them in quickly. What a sight. the whole OB changed shape to engulf the pieces. After lights off, its tenacles were out again. Does this mean it wants seconds?

BTW, see the greenish white bubble coral above and to the left of the OB? http://home.netcom.com/~slkatz/Brain.JPG
It is no longer extended like it is in the picture. A couple of the sections have receded and are skeleton only. Is this a feeding/starvation issue too? Any advice how to save this one?
