Hi all,
I'm going to be getting a 75 gallon reef ready with Oceanic W/D filter. Is the casing glass? Can anyone recommend a conversion they've used to accomodate a protein skimmer?
All help is appreciated,
Whitey

If you are getting a used one and can't choose to get a sump instead...
The whole thing is made like a heavy-duty all glass tank. What I did was to take a razor knife and cut the central chamber away from the wall and remove it. Then there was room for a little reef devil skimmer (super reef devil?). I left the outer chamber intact so there's a cool little path the water takes to the return pump. The carbon and other filter chambers are handy, I keep a carbon bag there. I removed the drip plate, the oceanic skimmer, and I cut up the glass canopy to hold the drain line from my overflow in place.

jimbo, are you saying the trickle filter has to be cut out? I thought the whole unit was just sitting there and could be pulled right out. I am in the same situation, tired of no room for a good skimmer.

No, Not the whole trickle filter. I just cut out the "tower" in the center the water is meant to run into before flowing out onto the drip plate. I left the odd-shaped chamber surrounding it, the one with the small opening in the bottom right for the water to flow out of. Then I ditched the drip plate.

Ok I see what you're saying. Actually I was planning on pulling the whole thing out alltogether to make room for a skimmer. I've also heard of someone converting the trickle filter shell to a refugium, they screened off the openings with something to keep the sand in.
