just a bunch of odds and ends questions:
Will a green rasta leather turn pink under metal halide lighting?
Are lysamatta shrimp (the cleaner ) nocturnal? I put one in 24 hours ago and haven't seen it yet, just wondering.
Do cucumbers bury themselves in the sand? Do you ever see them?
How do starfish act? (reef safe ones) like do they stay behind the rocks. etc
What kinda snails breed?
What are some really good sources for livestock (inverts, soft, lps, fish, and SPS sources)
thanxs,

Probably not. ALthough coloration does depend somewhat on light intensity, it also depends upon what the original color was. ALthough stranger things have happened, I'd expect your green leather to turn wither greener, or possibly browner.

Not necessarily. They can be nocturnally active, but are usually just as active during the day. Newly introduced shrimp will often hide in the rockwork for a few days as they become acclimated. On the other hand, shrimp are also quite aware of predatory fish, so if you have something like a hawkfish that would possibly make a meal of the shrimp, it'll stay hidden in the rocks.

Yes, they can, but usually you'll see them crawling along in the top inch of sand or so, leaving clean sand pellets behind. Alternately, if you get a filter feeding type (rather than a sand cleaning one), they'll be on your rocks or glass all the time trying to filter something from the water column for dinner.

Depends upon the type of star. Normally "star" shaped sea stars move fairly slowly, and will slowly crawl over most surfaces in your tank looking for food - including dark pockets at the rear of your tank where you can't see them as well as the front glass. Brittle/serpent stars are much quicker moving, and will often race across the tank in search of fodd when the tank is fed, but spend most of the reat of their time in dark recesses awaiting the feedings.

All kinds do, otherwise there wouldn't be any little snails

But seriously, different snails have different delivery methods. Astrea and trochus snails will "smoke" up a tank with their reproductive efforts, whereas nerites, cerith, and nassarius snails leave egg clusters on the glass (as well as elsewhere, I'm sure).

Different people will have different opinions on who does a good job. Online retailers I've been happy with include IndoPacific Sea Farms (IPSF), Inland Aquatics, Jeff's Exotic Fish, and Harbor Aquatics.

Whew, that took awhile. Hope it helps

I can answer a few from personal experience.

The cleaner shrimp in my tank aren't nocturnal but do hang under live rock most of the time and come out when I put food in the water.

My cuke mostly cralls all over the live rock and its not a filter feeder. probably gets enough food on the rock.
Got mine from premium aquatics as a sand cuke.
Speaking of Premium Aquatics, they seem to have good livestock. there web site is Premium Aquatics
I've been to Jeff's Exotic and they have a great setup. Got a clown trigger their. http://www.exoticfish.com
IPSF for inverts and some fish. http://www.ipsf.com
And I've heard Flying Fish Express is good but haven't gotten anything personally. http://www.ffexpress.com

my cleaner spend most of his time in or around the rocks but is fearless when i feed he will literally take frozen food right outta my hand

I had a brittle star that spent most of his time hiding but i got rid of him because he became a killer when he got larger i dont reccommmend them

My linka stars split their time between the rock and the glass of the tank they are always out and visible and i think more attractive than brittles

i added a baby cucumber yesterday to my sand bed and havent seen him since thats all i know about them

i say go for diversity in your snails i have 4 types of snails in my tank

also, some more questions:
what do bangaii's eat?
do firefish hide alot?
i put 3 pairs of fish in (2 bangaais, 2 perculas, and 2 firefish)and all of the pairs are always together. is this a sign that they are pairs?
lastly, again what are some good mo livestock places?

webgeek,

Whoaaaa. You put in 3 pairs of fish - all at one time? Take it slow. This hobby takes a little patience.

I recommend you purchase (or borrow) Scott Michael's Marine Fishes: 500+ Essential... as a great reference. Use it when you are thinking about adding a new fish to your tank. It is well worth the 20 bucks.

i would be intrested in knowing how you make out with the blue linkas as they are supposedly the hardest linkas to keep i currently have a red and a yellow linka
