I recently purchase a tube anemone and its foot became separated from its body. It is still open but concerned it may be dying. Any thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks

Are you sure it was an anemone and not an hawaiian feather duster??

Does it looks like that???

Goldmoon - Go to FFE again, go to the anemone section and click on tube anemone. I belive that is what Openbrain is refering to, but feel free correct me if I'm wrong. It shows an orange one, but the come in different colors. I myself have a purple one, although I can not help with the problem. Good luck.

Leave it alone. The crown, if it is still opened, will grow a new tube and settle down. I have a purple and a orange. The purple one suffered several injuries and is still alive. In fact, I cleaned my tank 2 months ago, and I found 3 purples (I only bought one). Either the tube anemone split, OR, the injuries forced the anemone to split.

BTW, the tube anemone appreciates bits of seafood from time to time.

I was under the impression that they were completly non-photosynthetic and needed to be fed on a regular basis. Is this not true? Or do they go a long way on small amounts?

"from time to time" to me is about every 2-3 days. Also, when I feed flakes to all fishes, the tube anemone will snatch those bits that drift by too.

Thanks Kev.. I just asked if it was a feather duster because I know feather dusters do that kind of thing.. But I can not help with the anemone..
As for losing fishes, I do not remember where I have read that but someone pointed out that those anemones had a real big strong sting and could kill fishes.. Maybe do a search on the subject but I am not sure if it was here or on another board

Could the clear jelly substance be the mouth? My anemone (Ritteri) does have a funny mouth sometimes when I feed it or feed the fishes. It looks like a big bubble.
