This may not be "reef" related, but it affects all of us so here goes:

HEADS UP!

This morning I saw an (unopened) email in my Outlook that said:

From: Hahaha Subject: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

If any of you get an email like this... DO NOT OPEN IT!!!

This is a computer virus that has already made the rounds once. A fairly bad one, at that. Well, it looks like Snow White has come out of her sleep...

My solution was to:

1. highlight the email ABOVE "Snow White"
2. hold down the shift key, and then
3. click the email BELOW "Snow White," while still holding down the shift key (there should now be 3 highlighted messages).
4. RIGHT click the selection, and click delete. Shut down Outlook.

All three messages were deleted. I then shut down and restarted my computer to make sure they were gone. I would suggest the same thing if any of you happen to get this same email.

FYI, I am running an updated Nortons AntiVirus, and it didn't catch it.

Well, call me a sceptic, but I didn't buy this "alert" at first. I get so many virus hoax warnings from friends that I went to my usual sites, and lo and behold, there it was...

...a real virus (worm actually) for a change!

Here's the link:

Snow White "virus" info

Fortunately this (and most) of these viruses are targeted toward DOS/Windows systems... Macs are OK....in fact, Macs RULE!

Yeah, Ed. Macs rule. They rule their tiny, insignificant, proprietary, overpriced software challanged kingdom

That is exactly the reason I don't use Outlook Express. Viruses will never really stop, until everyone learns to not open attachments from strangers especially (or from friends) with out checking it out with the virus software and to keep their virus prog updated. My Norton Anti-V catches everything, I also like ESafe a lot. I get a lot of viruses sent to me, being at college. It seems like viruses feed on curiosity.

There is nothing wrong with macs. I have a PC at home, but used a mac before switching my degree to genetics and micro (cp graphics). The interface is a little different, but some people like that. My ex's new mac laptop puts my desktop to shame in the things it does (voice chess, for one) and can use a lot of the PC software.

Not that I can remember, ND. Although I did try to caution folks the first time around with this Snow White "worm." Now it's back again.

Nebo is off I-40 around the 90 exit. Close to Marion, and about 45 minutes East of Asheville. Zat help any? If you've ever heard of Lake James, that's Nebo.
