Radio shack fan

Hey everybody,
I have a small Radio-shack 12VDC fan in my canopy wired to a doorbell type ac-dc converter. This works great, very silent, except the fan doesn't start unless I tap it! If it doesn't start it gets hot and after a couple hours I start to smell something, so I have had to take it off the timer.

Is this just a defective fan, or is this a common problem?

I have 2 radioshack AC fans. Zero maintenance and at $12 ea they are great.

I have 2 of the 12 volt DC radio shack fans in my hood, no problems with either of them. I bought just a regular 12 volt plug-in transformer, like what you'd use on a cell phone, and wired them off of that. I'd exchange yours, has to be a defect.
