I need to add a power back up system to my 180, but do not know which. Do I spend the money on a UPS? If so, how long will a good one keep my ampmaster 3000 running? Should I hook it to a powerhead for more running time?

Should I invest in a life reef battery back up system? It is like a small car battery that will run a powerhead or two for a while. They are very expensive though.

Battery operated air pump that turns on when the power goes out? How many would I need to keep a 180 in oxygen? Are they reliable?

I would hate to come home to a dead tank. I know so many have on this board and really wnat to avoid that. Any advice would be great.

What about a generator. I see gasoline powered generators that will power your pump and a few other items for around 600 bucks.

WELL I PURCHASE a generator that way if i lose power i can also have lights and my tv on with my 180 tank. its funny i had many power outs one lasting up to 5hrs nothing died in my tank no gen at the time so it all depends on how long the tank is off but wont take the chance so get a gen

A generator would not work in my 2x2 condo on the second floor. The neighbors already hate me for the noise and problems I cause as it is... LOL!

I bought a 600 watt power inverter that changes the 12vdc to 120vac for like 75 bucks on special at radio shack (vendor forgot the Radio shack LOGO or something) for my boat, ( TV, heater and Microwave power ) and it works great for these small appliances I dont see why you couldn't power a small pump for many hours on a 12 volt battery

Not a wise choice but it would work on a tight budget.
