I just bought a yellow eye tang (kole tang). It lasted through the first 24 hours. I can't figure out why it died. LFS man thinks maybe it's my salinity, 1.024. His tanks are at 1.019. I acclimated it over an hour. He said I don't have some weird unknown thing in the tank. The parameters read very well, Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Ph 8.2, Nitrate is below bottom of scale, Phosphate same as ocean level.
Any ideas as to the cause?
I have some damsels, sand star, Mandarin(I've had him a year now to rid me of flat worms, He is as fat and jolley as santa claus), and a peppermint.

Could my salinity be too high for some fish? This isn't the first fish to die for unkown causes. I don't want to buy anthing more until I figure something out that makes sense.

Did you see it feeding agressively in the LFS tank?
Was the fish hiding in the LFS tank?
Did the LFS have difficulty netting the fish?
Did you turn the lights off when you put the bag in your tank to adjust the water temperature?
And adjust the Salinity?
Did you leave the lights off and leave the fish alone?
Kole tangs seem to stress very easily which I think was the cause.
Your sality if fine. Your LFS is too low and he should adjust it to your level (average) or you should shop elsewhere.
What is the size of your tank?

Find another LFS. Your salinity is ok, if anything, I woukd raise it to 1.025. The tang might have been stressed out before. You shaould always ask o see the fish eat before you buy if possible.

naesco: yes, no He swam fast but nothing can compete for long with a net that big. yes, for the most part I left one very dim actinic light on.I did adjust the salinity in the bag by adding a little tank water every 15 minutes, three times

Greg: the fish wasn't a new arrival. It looked good. It was the least shy fish. It did some nibbling while I was there.
I can't really find another LFS because the other one is really the same. I don't understand something though his, LFS, tanks and fish always look excellent.

I'm still confused. Could there be some bug that my other fish are immuned to in the water, food or something? I had a similar problem with two yellow tangs, and some weird, new, kind of snail.

What is the salinity in Hawaii? anyone know?

How long did the LFS have it before you bought it? If it was a recent arrival, it could have been stressed before you even got it, and was already in poor health.
