Did you cycle the tank with lr or fish? I know die off could be of concern for cycling with lr, but I know some people have done it. Any thoughts? Is it really irrelavant?

I would say it's a relevant topic. I'd cycle with live rock. Damsels are the hardiest fish to cycle with, but I'll be durned if I want on in my reef when the tank is done cycling. Live rock, on the other hand, is a necessity in a reef, so why not cycle with that?

Peace,

Dont use damsels, your gonna want them out at some point and once you have all your rock in there, your gonna have a hard time catchin them, much like I am now

It can be a little more than a no brainer.

I used black molllies and I do not favor the rent a fish approach. My mollies are still in the tank with everyone else and earn their keep more than any other fish in there they are always suppling the reef with fresh food. These two breed more than any fish I have ever seen. I like the constant supply of live food for all the critters.

Some brains required.
