I have a 55g FOWLR. I have about 70lbs of LR and a 4in DSB. I am wanting to put some ricordia in my tank but I'm not sure I have enough light. I just have two 18in NO bulbs over my tank. They are the Reef Sun bulbs from ZooMed. I know Ricordia can stand low light, but is this too low? I also have 4 maxijets (2-900's & 2-1200's) on a wave timer. Is this too much current?
Any info would be great. Thanks.

This link, http://www.garf.org/ricord/ricord.html leans toward disagreeing that ricordia like low light. I myself have had florida ricordia under 330W PC and they have been fine. I just upgraded my lighting to 2x150W 20K HQI + 4x30W Actinic and they look better than ever. They do seem to like current though.

Brad,

Not to get off the subject but...
why do you run the actinic. Is it an asthetic thing or??
The reason I ask is, I tried running actinics with my 150 HQI's and I really did not like the color they produced. So I run them anyway for the benefit of the tank but have them on a timer so they are on while I am not at home.

USHIO 150 hqi
Corallife flourescent actinic (I also tried smartlamps but the color was even worse than the standard flourescents)

Jawbone,

In actuality it is because it came as part of a light as an all-in-one set-up. Although it does give off a lot of blue light(outside the tank) I liked the color of the light on the corals, on a tank of similar depth, that the LFS had set-up. My ricordia now look to have little glowing green balls all over them, very cool looking. All the other corals that floresce kinda glow now. The bad part is is that after the MH turn off and the actinics are still on, my bedroom glows of blue from outside the house. I often wonder if my neighbors, that I don't know, think I am growing something in my bedroom. Well, I am!!!
