I received a new fish, Dwarf golden moray of Hawaii. Gymnothorax melatremus. This is the second one to my reef.

Other than that, scrub the glass, and prune caulerpa.

I did maintenance duties on the 120 gal FOWLRLS. It's in the hair algae phase now, so I pulled weeds, blasted rocks, water change.

Added a lawnmower blenny the other day. Added fresh carbon and phosphate sponge.

Planning on starting to pull the bioballs this week and maybe try to improve the skimmer performance. Water params look good except for nitrates at 10ppm.

I added food and 1 tsp Reef Builder to my 38 gal reef.

I sat and had a beer while I contemplated how the heck do I improve the water turnover so that my big expensive skimmer can do it's job more effectively??!!

i fed the fish a little when i got home.

Fed the fish, cleaned the glass, added B-Ionic, and moved my stick polyps to a lower level of light (they have been acting strange).

Peace,

Chip

3 tanks: 120g reef, dosed B-Ionic, noticed VHO light digital timer was not working, used a magnet to scrape the glass, cleaned the fromt, fed the fish, replaced top off water in my 23g NURCE unit, added a few new snails, scarlet hermits, a new yellow fiji leather coral, and moved a few corals a bit to make room.

40g reef, dosed B-Ionic, repositioned a mushroom that needed a little help, threw in some new snails and a few scarlet hermits, dripped some kalk for top off.

7g nano reef, added a few snails, a few scarlet hermits, and a new pink skunk clown. This was suppose to have a mate, but the female did not make shipping. It was DOA

. I feel sad for this little guy all by himself without his mate.

All in all a busy reef day, more so than usual as I received a shipment from Flying Fish Express.

Oh yeah! I forgot.
I also got a Deep 6 hydrometer today, so I came home and checked specific gravity. I am at 1.026 - a little high I guess.

Noticed at least ten times that I needed to scrape the glass. I'll do it tomorrow I guess.

Sh!*, you ready for this:
Fed them at 8:00 AM,
Scraped glass at noon, fed them again with frozen brine soaked in Selcon,
Decided to clean the sump (my girlfriend... oops, fiancèe... yes got engaged last weekend) noticed a "funky" smell. It involved drainaing it completely and cleaning every part, protein skimmer and all.
Tested for nitrAte and Calcium,
Did a 20% W/C.
Fed them again.

Today I added 4 blue Assessors. Used a masonry bit to drill a hole in some liverock to mount some kind of maybe Pachyseris sp. with a plastic rod. Man that coral was hard. Spend one hour with a fishing line tied to a soda bottle trying to catch a pair of #*@#*@ C. argi.

Checked PH/Ammonia/Nitrate/Nitrite and all that great stuff, i added RO water to bring my Salinity down. Removed new PC's to send back to CSL and added old ones for now. Realized my tank's not going to cycle without an animal, making plans to buy a fish tomorrow.

Emptied and cleaned skimmer cup of Euro-reef.

Topped up a bit with tapwater/dechlor as DI cartridges have not arrived.

Fed anemones, elegance and brain coral silversides.

Moved central reef rock with two BTA out to another tank. Contemplating increased light into the FOWLR and the addition of the ***** I've always wanted - a maroon clown.

Tried to check salinity with refractometer, to find visiting boyfriend of daughter had not only broken the plastic hinge, but recalibrated the whole unit....

I went to the LFS today and picked up some prawn eggs and a orange gorgonian with red polyps (beautiful). I also talked the LFS guy into pulling a small start off of a rasta finger for me. Then I went home and acclimated the gorgonian and took a few shots of a very impressive bristle worm and some macro shots of some pods in my ten gallon cutting tank. Then I fed the fish and added fresh water. I went back to working on the tile I am putting around my fireplace while checking back on the new gorgonian every once in a while. I am going to add my B-ionic in a few minutes and then I am going to go to bed. (after a little south park)

oh yeah, fiddled with a powerhead to no avail, then jerked it out and put my big rio back in temporarily.

re-siliconed the top, fed and bought brine shrimp eggs to hatch. Does the time I spend on the computer at this site count as time towards the tank???

Pruned saragrassium (sp)
Moved a turbo grazer to a powerhead that was getting a little overrun by hair algea.
rinsed sponge in BAkpak output.
Fed Senior Mantis, BMF
Adjusted kalk drip speed. came home to an almost overflowing tank with 8.5 pH. Ouch.

Dropped in algecide tablets into my goldfish tank.

Sat and tried to see my nudi. I think that is what it is, It was a hitchhiker.

aaah - nice thread. I really feel a sense of comradeship because you guys know what I go through day in and day out. average day for me includes dosing B-ionic first thing in the AM, discarding the skimmate, and doing a thorough search over the entire tank (65 gal). today i also relocated my Blastomussa wellsi and merletti in preparation for a large Acropora and Orange M. cap that are arriving tomorrow AM from cquarium. I also scrubbed the LR with a toothbrush and netted out as much valonia as I could. oh, forgot to mention that I am on the winning end of a battle with bryopsis and valonia. i feed my reef very lightly, maybe once every 3 days. i try to leave it alone as much as i possibly can, so as to let it balance itself. i change 5 gals of RO/DI water once a week.
