I have some pieces of liverock that were taken out of my tank (dried out in a bucket - no life). Would I cause problems for myself if I took a hammer and broke off small pieces to use for propagating mushrooms, leathers, etc? Would use pieces no bigger than say a baseball, and add one at a time with a few weeks in between... Thanks.

In a well established reef aquarium the new pieces of rock will become alive again in a short period of time. Have fun with the propogating.

If the rock is completely dead, meaning it has turned white, then there is no problem adding into your established tank. There's no need to wait a week in between adding the small rocks back into the tank, provided it is completely dead. Just rinse it off, and put it in there.

Later!
