I have 2 coral tank. One is 5ftx2.5ftx2.5ft and another is 18"x18"x18". The 5ft tank have been runing for more then a year and the 18" have not more then a month old. Both of them using Nitrate reductor and mineral are added regularly. The nitrate are less then 10ppm but I have not change to water before. The coral still doing well. And for the 5ft tank.. it have grow as well... i think.. or the tentical just got longer. It just came in to me that... should I change the water?

I don't change water in my systems. I've had no problems. I add more than 10% total water volume in topoff per week, and I've a sufficient variety of corals.

I'd rather sleep better at night, I change an aggregate of about 15% each months. The top off is with RO/DI feeding into a Kalk reactor.

I've been doing WC-less for about a year and a half. The biggest draw back for no water change is that there are much more chemicals in the water(other than simply NO3, PO4, Ca and Mg) that we do not have test kits to measure with. I do not want to push to the limit over things that I have no control over.

While frequent water changes are "generally beneficial", some would argue "if it isn't broke, don't fix it". If your animals look good you must be doing something correct.

hemem.. I have the same thinking with carver also. What if I did something wrong during the water change? If it's okie then it's okie. I do believe that they are lot more thing inside the sea water that we can't test with test kit... But if the life inside the tank have get it balance... better not to disturb the balance. Regular water change should keep with regular water change and no water change should keep with that also. I also keep the population of fish not change. No new fish have been added in the 5ft tank ever since the fisrt group of fish are added right after the tank finish it cycle long time ago. ek... And I only feed them once or twice a week but they are fat like pig. hahahahaa!!! I think I better stick with that. They new 18" tank might need water change. I'll check the progress of it.
tq~ tq tq!
