(OKay so it's not exactly reef related)

Two years ago I ordered a medium tiger shovelnose catfish. It came in too big for us to sell so we set up a tank for it. Actually a big 500 gallon pond.) But now I need to find him a home. SInce then he has grown to about 3-4 feet long. There aren't many peole in the area with th capability to house him. Does any one know hoe to get in touch with a zoo or public aquarium to find out if they could take it?

from what Ive heard alot of Aqauriums wont take donations. On occasion they will but for the most part all of there exibits are planned so donations dont fit in. You could try to right letters to a few of your local aqauriums though.

That's where he is now. Got him in a 500 gallon pond with 4 XL oscars and some sunfish. I'm not in a hurry to get rid of him but I know I will eventually have to so I'm looking for options.

We have the same problem in the LFS I work at, but it's with even smaller 'large' fish.

Foot-long panther grouper, 2-foot leopard shark, foot-long black volitan lion, and two 8" sixliniatus groupers. Ugh...

Peace,

Chip

Reefs I don't think a tiger shoverlnose will live in a reeftank =P. Rover call local petstores and see if they have any large ponds (indoor or even outdoor if you live in a warm area). Worst comes to worst, you can have a nice BBQ catfish meal.

Look up some freshwater sites or go to a fish chat room. I know they have them on AOL

I had a simular problem with a large pacu. I eventually found a diving school with an indoor pool/pond that took him.. They like to have fish so it gives the divers a more real experiance.. search your yellow pages and give them a call.
