It was the first book I checked out from the library and the one which really got my hooked on the hobby...glad I stumbled on a good way of doing things.
The Natural Reef Aquarium is a great book, John has been a good source of info over the years. Of course I am a bit biased 'cause we're IN the book in general all the Microcosm books are well written. The New Marine Aquarium by Paletta is good also.
Martin Moe's books are a good, general info book - Marine Aquarium Handbook especially, easy to read, and good basic info.
I think it's great that you are reading to get more info, especially if this is before you have set up a tank.
I'm in the middle of The Conscientious Marine Aquarist, and I'm really enjoying it. Not only is it informative, but it's well written and flows nicely, so you don't have to struggle through it. Just my 2 cents.
I'm still hoping to find a book that desribes how to keep reef tanks more biotopically accurate. Like what groups of organisms are found together most often, from types and shapes of rock to corals and inverts to fish to how much water motion and clouds. I want to be able to have an accurate slice of the ocean. I think Microcosm is going to publish something soon that seems like it may be along those lines. web page
