I have had Nassarius Snails for sometime now i think they are great scavengers for the sand bed.

My concern is would there be a potential hazard to a Maxima clam sitting in the sand bed i saw a Nassarius Snail going into the mantel of the clam, the clam closed and then reopened and then the snail came out.

Any help in this matter would be appreciated
Thanks

The nassarius snails should pose no direct threat to your clam. They are scavengers, not predators. I'm sure the snail was just looking for something to eat, not realizing it was crawling on a live clam. I'll bet it got one hell of a surprise when the clam closed on it! One other thing -- since nassariuses are scavengers you might want to take a good look at your clam to make sure it's healthy in case the snail was drawn to it because of some dead/dying material.

Some sp. of nassarius are hamful to a reef tank. I believe e-tropicals was selling the incorrect snails not too long ago. Check their site or Dr. Ron's for a proper ID

The sand bed should be fine as long as it's getting enough light. I have mine there.

thanks for the replies
im sure its the propper snail

should i keep it on the sandbed or try to position it on a rock with a crevice. I placed it on the sand bed afraid of it falling off a rock and dieing.
