so clear it up-

UV sterilizers don't get enough contact time to truly kill all the parasites in the tank

They do not kill ich, it is gonna be there no matter what

The UV does kill copepods, so don't think about having fish who eat it, cause it won't be there.

So in the end, it does ok, but you don't need it.
right?

Like alot of things in life, its not so black and white.

I use a UV unit in my reef - but its controversial.

I do believe it helps control ich and reduce free floating algae. It does impair some of the nutrients on which filter feeders rely, though this can be made up with adding supplements.

While it doesn't kill all parasites in the tank, it keeps them under control so, with biological controls (cleaner shrimp) you have a healthier tank.

All that being said, there is a respected contra view that says its just not worth it. Its worked for me so I've stayed with it.
