I just set up my prop tank. I have a 15 month old 6500K Iwasaki(DL) 250W that I was going to use temporarily. I fired it up with a new PFO-EYE ballast and it was BLUE-WHITE almost equivalent to my 20K. This bulb was used previously on an e-ballast and never had this color. It was even duller on the e-ballast in the past. This bulb is even the older type(non-R)and has been in storage for 9 months.
Given the Iwasaki data (Sanjay et al) I don't think this is spectral shift since blue should be lost first in that case. Has anyone had this experience with switching ballasts from e to PFO?

I run the 400Wers on EYE ballasts on another tank-I still have the e-ballasts running 250's DL-R type on my 135g. The difference in color is dramatic. This is good reason to use PFO over e-ballast(and they're cheaper)IMO.

This is all good to hear since I am going with 400watt Iwasaki bulbs and PFO-EYE ballasts for my new tank. I was concerned that the 96watt PC actinics would not be enough. Looks like I will be ok.

This is what the claim for using a MV ballast is with these bulbs. They are MV bulbs and will burn brightest and best on a MV ballast. I do this with my 400W Iwasaki bulbs, I run them on a PFO MV ballast, love them. Another factor can be whether you have the nipple up of not, should be up!!!
