I have a 180 that has been running for 18 months. I am replacing my CC substrate with South Down Sand. What do I need to add to the sand?

add? nothing. If you are going to be doing this to an existing tank I suggest that you "season" the sand for a few weeks. Put it in a large vat of seawater, add some silversides or fish flesh to rot and get the bacteria colonies up. This will cut down tremendously the amount of cloudiness that would result in just pouring the new sand in.

Mick,
Sounds like a great idea. I can put this off for another few weeks.
Anyone know of someone who has done this? Does it help? Sounds good.

I'd add a few pounds of live sand, and ask for a cup or two of fellow reefers sandbeds to seed the sand w/ worms and such.
