I have witnessed one of the greatest things ever in my reef this morning. This was truely amazing and funny at the same time. It was like watching a Wild Discovery episode in 3D with surround sound!
At about 6 AM I awoke to cracking noises from my tank. I knew I had one green pistol shrimp under my clove polyps (hitch-hiker), and have heard him from time to time cracking loud. It has even woke me up a couple times before. Like once when my cucumber was too close to his borro.
But this time, WOW were they loud and they wouldn't stop. I would hear many cracks in a series at different volumes. Were talking loud. Something was making him really p$ssed off. I got up and turned on the flash light, and looked in the tank.
Wow, the bigger green pistol shrimp (1.2" or so) had his burro invaded by two 3/4" green pistol shrimps! And the big one was outside cracking trying to take back his home. Well, in the end the big guy got his home back (came back to the tank an hour later after getting ready for work). I don't know what happened to the other two little green ones?
Wow, trench warfare in my tank! The battle of clove polyp hill!
Do you think the 2 smaller green ones were a pair? I never thought pistol shrimps pair up with eachother like that? Well now I know I have 3 green pistol shrimps in my tank.
