I'm new to R/O unit's and was wondering which line is the waste water & good water.
I was told the blue line is good and the brown bad but according to what I've read the ratio should be around 1 to 3.
The color will depend on what brand of RO unit you have. The instructions that came with the unit should tell which is which. If you tell who the manufacturer is maybe someone could help. I believe that you are right about the 3:1 ratio.
I have an AquaFX unit and my blue line is the RO water and the yellow line is the waste. My ratio is about 3:1.
When you turn on the input water to your unit, pick up both your blue and brown hoses. The fast discharging hose is the waste and, of course, the slow discharging line is the RO water. It is very easy to see the difference when you have the 2 lines side by side.
Call the manufacturer of the unit, if you really want peace of mind.
sorry...it's Kent CTA 20GPD
according to the manual the blue is good and brown is waste. Any Kent users out there - need help. I even follow the picture.
Yes, the fast trick is which line produces more flow. That would be the waste line.
The other way to varify is there is a flow restictor in the waste line. Most of the time the flow restictor is a thread like insert.
The best way to tell is the TDS reading. They will be so much higher in the waste stream. If after testing the TDS there is ANY question, there is a problem!
