Hey guys,

I bought a batch of four turbo snails from the LFS; I acclimated them (along with ten hermits) into a small 10G I have at work; as soon as I put them in, they haven't really moved! One of the turbos is very slowly (2" in two days) moving across the sand, but the other three are just hanging out, no change in position for almost two days. My sandbed is encrusted with algea, and I'm hoping that they are just munching w/out going anywhere. I've checked them with the handle of a small net, and they're responsive. Is this typical?

Yes it takes some awhile to start moving when you acclimate them to your tank. Just make sure they aren't dead though or it could foul up your tank really quick.

I think I read somewhere here before that they don't really like the sand. Try putting them on the rocks. Might be silly, but I think I saw it here...

I aclimate my snails for at least three hours. Aa bit of water every 15 minutes until I know I have reached the same salinity as the tank.

Snails are very sensitive, and odds are that some may be already dying due to handling by the place you got them and the place they got them and so forth.

A last note: I checked my tank here at work after the weekend, and found that three of the guys had made their way up the glass, so all seems well. The 4th one was grazing on my liverock. There must have been a period of shock for the poor guys. Thanks everyone!
