I think you should always place new corals in a lower light area of the tank, irregardless of where it came from. There is always some stress when a coral transfers tanks due to chemistry differnces, water flow rates, etc. Placing a coral in high light can stress it out and put it over the edge, even sps.
With regard to acclimation, I just float the bag, and dump it in after about 15 min. I don't know anybody that drip acclimates there coral.
