What is your experience with these chillers? Was thinking of putting one of these on a fifty gallon tank. Hoping to bring the temp down 2-3 degrees. Do these chillers work or are they for small tanks
I looked at these several months ago and talked with the company. I have a 58 gallon tank and was advised that it would probably only drop the temperature a degree or two best case. It would take several and then you are in the price range of a chiller. They are for small tanks. Great idea and I suspect as the efficiencies improve we will see it move up to displace chillers. I bought a chiller and it works perfectly.
Efficiencies won't move up enough to make these things competitive on anything bigger than a nano. Thermoelectric coolers are just simply horrible for moving large amounts of heat.
these units will not produce enough to keep a 50 galloon 3 degrees cool. Guess the only option is a chiller. They seemed like a nice cheap way to cool the tank. Was too good to be true. Unless anyone else has tried one. Thanx
They operate on the Peltier method and peltiers are very inefficient! They create like twice the heat they remove making them a costly device on the power consumption side of it..
If peltiers were efficient the old compressor type chillers would be gone!
