I have had my 220 gal. tank for 1 yr. now and am thinking about trying an anemone. Research indicates that bubble tips are the best choice. 2 questions:

1. What clowns will host in bubble tips?

2. I already have several corals (bubble, colt, hammer, shrooms, pagoda, elephant ear, frogspawn, fox, toadstool, trumpet, finger leather & non-photo gorgs) during the anemone's wandering stages, will these corals be in danger?

Thanks

Also...

Was planning on a clam sometime this year, any problems with anemones & clams? Do bubble tips prefer to be on the sand or on the rocks?

Thanks

Adding an anemone to an established reef is a little dangerous. Anemones, especially bubble tips, tend to wander around the tank unitl they find a place they like. They sting the crap out of everything they come in contact with while they're moving around. You've got a nice big tank so maybe you have the room for one. You'll have to keep an eye on it as it moves and hopefully you can relocated corals as necessary.

My Gold Stripe Maroon & bubble tip are inseparable!!! He went to the anemone within 30 minutes after i added the bubble tip.

I placed my BTA on my LR where he/she could hide it's foot in the dark and reach it's tenticles into the light. He has not moved in 3 months. From what i have read this is very important in the placement of the anemone.

Have no idea about clams, never had one.

Oh, and anemones and clams are not a problem together. There is just the same danger that comes from the anemone if it wanders. Clams require a lot of light too.

as far as i know, bubble tips will host most species of clowns, natural or unnatural. i have two in my tank, and they didnt wander two far from where they landed in the tank. as long as they have a nice current and plenty of light, as well as somewhere dark and tight to hide their foot, theyll stay there. watch out though the first few days, they do like finding sources of water movement, aka powerhead inlets. i tried to get one of my anemones to move to another end of the tank but turning his rock over, and instead of moving where i wanted him to, he thought into a power head would be best for him....he survived, and as far as i can tell hes still exactly the same. but i was mighty worried.

My bubbletips are cemented I'm sure...just kidding. The original was placed in a hole in the rock. It slit and the clone dropped into another hole in the same rock. I have moved the rock, all around, including to another tank. They will not move. Go figure.

I also have a sebae and an LTA. They do not move at all and live on the sand.

I have a Bubble Tip that I placed on top of a large piece of Rock when I got it three months ago. It crawled down that rock and found a hole...it's occupied it since. It split about two months ago and the new one moved over about 4 inches and set up home. They have not moved since. They appear quite happy...I'm waiting for one of these to split.

My large Tomato clown likes to excavate the substrate to enlarge the area for it's two Anemones.

I also had to move a colony of star polyps when one of my BT's started expanding more during the day...it was stinging the edge of the polyp colony and I lost a some polyps.

My two clams are about 8 inches away and have never had any problems.
