my tank is leaking, i have another tank already set up with a dsb and some live rock & rubble about 15 lbs in a 55gallon, i have another 45 lbs in the leaking tank with 2 small fish and 3 shrimp, the problem is my ammonia level in the new tank set up is between 0.2-0.4(the shade is between those two)for a week now, and i dont trust the leaking tank(i lowered water level so it isnt leaking)for much longer. can i add the other live rock and the fish with this level? what else can i do? thanks in advance for any reply.

Hi Chris. Where is the leak in the old tank?

I wouldn't add anything to the new tank until it has cycled completely. If you have to, transfer everything you can from the leaky tank to a large rubbermaid 'tote' until your new tank is ready to go.

Good luck,

don't they sell stuff to rapidly cycle tanks? and i know there is ammonia-reducing media. i have never used either, but they might help. good luck.

if i added the rest of the live rock to the new tank would that speed up the process any? if my tank does need to be taken down quickly, how can i keep my fish alive until the ammonia goes down if i put the rest of the live rock into the new tank?

also would a new dsb cause an ammonia spike in a tank with nothing in it other then water? im trying to figure why i have ammonia in there, i added the 15lbs of lr but that was cured rock that was out of the tank for no more then 1 hour.

an off topic question, can i add a rock that was used in a tank with copper, but has been out of water for at least a year?

thanks again for the help...
