How many people kept seahorse and pipe fish? (Either in a reef tank or a species tank)
Or have you thought of it?

For myself, I have always wanted a seahorse tank, and have recently converted my main display into a seahorse habitat and kept nothing except non-stinging corals (all others are returned (sold) back to LFS)

Wow, that is amazing shutting down your whole system for a seahorse tank. They are cool tanks but nothing compared to a living and thriving reef. And you have been doing it for so many years, don't you find you've lost something?

I take it as an adventure. I have not lost everything. I have only returned the stinging types such as hard LPS, anemone and yellow polyps. I still kept most of the softies and button & green star polyps, in addition to the sponges and gorgs.

What I have not is a planted softie tank more closely resembled to seahorse habitat. If you look at it now, you will see that it is still a reef tank.

I have 2 of the blue striped pipefish in my reef. They have always seemed to eat, grow, and be fine, and not bothered by anything.

Dan, I would like to start a Seahorse tank some day but I think I will go with my 42 hex tank for them. One of the things I have read is that they don't like alot of current and my reef needs that for the gorgs, so that is why I have stayed away from them.
Righty, what do your pipefish eat, some say they starve rather easily as they require live food.

Nothin' seem to bother the pipes and the pipes don't seem to bother nothin'!

I have seen them snap at live and frozen brine, and I have seen them go after frozen copopods (sp?). I think the mostly forage in the live rock for little critters. Maybe I am just lucky that the tank provides enough food for them. They are fat fat fat.

Danmhippo,

I don't have any seahorses or pipefish, but I would like to get some one day. If you have any questions on seahorses you can post on ReefCentral they have a forum for seahorses. There is also a site called http://seahorse.org/ you could try. I hope this helps.
