This is the best board out there!!! Any other ideas, these are great, so far I am leaning toward the Motorcycle strap idea.

I would try the cycle straps...
Use a piece of plywood or two to brace against the stand on the two sides of the failure, then wrap and tighten both straps, one top, one bottom, of the plywood.
This will hopefully distribute the force of the straps so you don't end up gougeing into the stand and weakening it that way.
Pipe clamps will work too, but straps should be better, cheaper, and usefull elsewhere after the crisis is over.

Ok, I took to straps and ran one high and one low and tightened them snugly, but I dont think to tight, just to keep them from coming apart. I hope this hold. BUT when I get a new stand, should I put a piece of plywood down on the floor to distribute the weight? Should I shim up the low side. Any good ideas on doing that?

NOTE TO SELF: NEVER BUY PARTICLE BOARD STAND!!!!

I have a 90 gallon reef tank and my particle board stand is coming apart in one corner!!! The Corners are separating at the seam!! Should I buy a new stand or wait 2 weeks for someone to build me one?? Can I screw the stand together while the tank is on it, or will the screws even hold in CHEAP particle board??? . Only thing that sucks is that I was moving in 5 months and was going to buy another tank and stand AFTER I moved. The other option is buying a 125 NOW and switching to that. Only problem is with the floors. they are wood. (yes I am on the ground floor) Water does move as you walk across the floor. Currently it is on the wall that separates the 2 apartments from one another. Will a 125 distribute the weight better??? Has a stand ever crashed on you guys??

OK, Let me know if this is a REALLY bad idea. I thought about going ahead and picking up a 125 I was going to wait till I moved to get. would this even be an option?? How do you level a floor, would putting plywood under the stand work?? Can I shim up one side, it is about 3/8 inch lower on one side of my 90.

Uneven floors, tank water moves when your walking on the other side of the room, and your moving soon. I think moving a 90, combined with all the structural problems in the flooring, would be enough to keep away from a bigger tank at the moment. See if you can shore-up the stand somehow. Rememeber, it's only temporary, and somewhat of an emergency. SO it doesn't have to look good, just hold the stand together until your ready to change. I'd stay with the 90, and maybe use some 2*4's to "block" the stand in some more. Hopefully one of the structural engineer's on the board will have a good idea how. Good Luck!

OH, forgot, use BIG screws, and one's that are built for outdoor applications that won't rust fast.

i would head over to home depot tomorrow and buy two long woodworking clamps and secure the stand to keep any further separation from happening. i wouldn't even consider setting up another tank if you are thinking of moving. with the clamps in place you won't need a new stand until its time to move. it will be ugly but safer.

the added bonus of owning the clamps is if your tank decides to have a blowout one night you can secure it with the clamps until you can make other arrangements.

You might try a motorcycle strap. They are cheap, very strong, and will work even in tight areas. I doubt that screws alone would work with that type of wood. After synching the stand back together you might add a few screws for support.
Good Luck

If your going to get a new tank any way. I would do the tank switch. If your that worried about the floor put a piece of 3/4" plywood under the tank stand say 3-4" larger than the stand. Or get a belt clamp put it around the stand get it tight but do not try pull the pieces together just keep it from separating more. If it were me I would clamp it and then switch tanks or stands. It could stand as is for years or come down tomorrow. I wish you luck.WW

By a motorcycle strap do you mean one of those "ratchet straps" that also hold cargo down on a Pickup? Should I rap that around the tank and tighten it? This sounds like a good idea.

Do they make clamps to keep corners together?

Should I do a combination of both of these?

Home depot would have such clamps ask for belt clamp. They use them for glueing up chairs and such. Or use a tie down if have one.WW
