T-5 flourescents

I read in two german magazines "Koralle" and "Der Meerwasseraquarianer" about the new 16 mm flourescents. I was wondering if there is anything written in English on the subject. The two articles I read talked about switching from 400 watt HID to 54 watt t-5s, one was running 8 400 watt bulbs and switched to 32, 54 watt bulbs. A saving of 3.2kw to 1.728kw. "5 Jahre Lebensdauer bei nur 10% Leistungsverlust." They supposedly last 5 years with only 10 % decrease in out put. Unfortunatley I haven't seen any proper PAR tests conducted with these lights to evaluate them. Only some LUX values appear on one German site I know.
