Calculating approx gallons in Tank?

Does anybody know the equation to calculate how many gallons a tank holds if given the dimensions?

(In inches) Length x width x height / 231 (# of cubic inches in an American gallon).

WOW! A 55 gallon tank holds just a little over 44 gallons!! Inside dimensions of 47.25" x 12" x 18" = 44.18 gallons. Even using the tank's outside dimensions I only come up with 47 gallons.

Yup, all of our tanks are overrated. they use the outer dimentions for the total gallons when they should use the inner volume.

My 75 outer dimentions are correct but when using the inner dimentions I get 67 gallons.

On my 580 gallon tank using the inner dimentions I get 512.5 gallons total volume.

Yeah, but even with the outside dimensions of my 55 gallon's glass, I only come up with 47 gallon. If I use the max possible, measuring the braces, I only get 51 gallons.
