Yep,if you know the owner, and they did indeed file for bankruptcy, you may be able to get a lot of stuff cheap. A friend of mine in college bought 60,000 used cd's for about $2000 because the guy needed the money. So he just sold him the whole store, Front door keys and all.

He paid around $10,000 total. for everything in the store, All the fixtures, the cd drawers, display racks, the disco lights, the stereo system, cash register, glass cases full of baseball cards, ect.... Everything that comes with a used cd store. He almost took just the Cd's and trucked them out of there, instead, he bought the whole store. What a deal. He just changed names on the front of the store and kept it open for a year or so.
It was great getting first pick on all the stuff he got in. and he would give me the cd's for what he paid for them. Too bad I was broke all the time, or my cd collection would be more than the 500 or so it is now.

There was no advance warning. One day the doors were locked and the out of business sign was on the door. All of the inventory is still in the store.

Hello all,

Well we have a pet store, BirdFishDogCat, here in Pa. that has gone out of business. I was not very astounded when it happened but it is still sad. What I would like to know is how do I go about finding out how the merchandise that they have in stock is going to be sold. They filed for Chapter 11 or is it 7. They had a 60x60x36 cube that would look very nice in my playroom. Any help is appriciated.

I second that... big time! Plus, it could be argued that you would be helping them by buying stuff at a good price.

Leave a note on their door saying you're interesting in buying stuff and leave your number. It may not be worth their while if you only want one or two things, but if you can get together with a couple of friends and plan to buy a lot, they might be persuaded to open up for a little "private sale".

it's probably already gone into recievership if the doors are closed. the bank is probably in the process of selling it off to an auction house somewhere. or the vendors are waiting to pickup their unpaid stuff.
