I had aquired an Acropora head with a rather larg-ish, fuzzy-red crab. At the time I thought it was a commensural Acropora Crab. People said it was bad, and would eat my corals. Well, I kinda suspected it, but never paid it much attention. Of late, I've been noticing a lot of the terminal polyps missing on my Acro's... I mean a lot of them. I've since witnessed this crab taking his large claws and ripping the tip off some of my corals, and upon inspecting the tank, see he's done that to more than a few of them. So now I want to get this thing out of there. If I could catch him, I'd either put him in my sump (Puffer Food!), or be kind, and let him live out his days in the refugium. Unfortunately, after trying for a couple days, I can't seem to catch him. He's always buried down deep in the rock/corals now, and I don't want to tear apart half my tank just to catch this S.O.B. I thought I didn't care what happened to him, and figured the best bet would be to try and sneak up with a piece of rigid airline tubing, and just crush him (Worm Food!) But I find that every time I grab my piece of tubing and lift the lid, my conscience stops me from killing him. I doubt I could catch him with a conventional trap (with all the food available to him out in the open, what's the likelyhood he'd go down a tube?), and don't seem to have the 'nads to do it myself... any idea's?

Does your conscience keep you from eating chicken or Big Macs?

He is a crab, for crying out loud!

Hahahahahahahahaha. Damn that funny. Borrow a trigger. Just kidding. Use a trap, they work pretty well. Stick him in the sump, refugium, biske, etc. Good luck.

I put a large teddybear crab in the overflow it seems happy. A big snail killer crab I had spend the night outside. Then I cracked him and fed him back to the tank. WW

I had a few similiar crabs eating my polyps a few months back and had a very hard time trying to catch the bastards with a net when the lights were out. But someone suggested that I use a coke bottle or something similiar with some pieces of shrimp in them. I left them over night and wow the next day the suckers were caught one by one everyday. Works great!

Whelp, the head of coral he was on this morning is now in the refugium... it's good there for a couple of hours. I just need to find a way to get him off the coral now. I'll give him a few hours on his own, but will prolly end up taking my rigid tubing and chasing him off the thing.
See how he likes eating detritus and algae for the rest of his life.
