Are actinics required?

My understanding is that they are not required (I have run a tank without them) but the provide more than just aesthetic value. They provide light in wavelengths that are not present in the 10K bulbs, which is useful to photosynthesis.

I have read that corals will do noticibly better with actinic supplementation.

All,

I've got a 200 g tank that is currently lit by 3 400W 10K german MH bulbs. So far I've only got hardy, soft corals and polyps -- GSP, mushrooms, and finger leather.

I'm getting ready to place a fairly large order for some much "better" LPS and SPS corals. Is my lighting adequate, or do I need actinic supplimentation first?

Also, if anyone has any advice on corals, I'd love to hear it. I'm still "researching".

Not required although would be nice on the eyes as they add more blue to the 10Ks!
