Do you think six 72" VHOs (960w) would make sps color up better than three 250w MHs (750w)?

This would obviously be for a 6" long tank 125g.

wnfaknd,

From what I have seen recently at Ron's saltwater heaven and on a few web sites, I would say yes.

I upgraded to 3x400W MH over my 225 about a year ago (up from 2x175W), and wish I had just added some VHO's.

MH give that nice shimmering effect, and my 400's sure are bright, but all of my SPS look kind of "washed out".

HTH,

Adam

It's not the wattage that you need to look at, it it is the par. The deeper the tank the more penitration you need. (intensity)

IMO and IME, I have a 180 that I had 3 x 400s w/ 2 60" 140 watts VHOs for suppliments and the tank was always hot. Now that I have went back to 3 x 250s and still have the VHO I can tell the difference in the tamp in the tank and also in the room.

I have a 6 foot 125 SPS tank. I have had 175W 10000K, 250W 6500K and 10000K, and 400W 6500K, 10000K, and 20000K at various times one this tank. I also have 320W of VHO Actinic. In my experience there is no question that my SPS have colored up more under my current setup of 3X400W 20,000K Radium MH with 2X160W VHO URI Actinics. That's my experience, but I never tried just VHO's.
