i'm shifting to my new appartment soon and using this opportunity to upgrade to a larger tank (250g). the problem is that the building is from the turn of the century and has wooden floors. i'm quite leary of subjecting the floor to that much stress.

i've read other posts on this topic. I have thought of building a box to distribute the load along the entire load bearing wall. however i foresee the floor will settle in time.

i've seen a website once with a description of a tank placed on steel consoles attached directly to the load bearing wall. looked from the side, the consoles are triangles, like book shelf supports. one variation might be to use I-beams instead.

has anyone tried or seen this? i suppose it would be costly but at least i have my piece of mind. any thoughts?

Check out the size and spacing of your floor joists. It is possible that it might support your tank if they are oversized joists. Many were during that period of building. You would still need to stay next to a load bearing wall.
