Can you frag starfish?

i got a couple of mini starfish from lfs and i was wondering if it would be possible to frag them...

depends on the starfish, some can only regenerate if the middle (body) section in intact. I have heard that some species can re-grow from any leg portion. I guess you could try it, but I would isolate the pieces that you want to try and regrow to protect them from predation. Your starfish might not exactly like getting dismembered, but it is a fact of life for most starfish eventually.

p.s. I hope your "mini-starfish" aren't the tiny coral eating starfish...

i'm not out of my mind...
i just remember back when i was in high school, my marine bio. teacher told the class that there was an epidemic of starfish along the calif. coastline. and then they hired all these divers to go in and cut all the starfish in half... he said that resulted in even higher number in starfish because they can regenerate like that. i dunno... do you think my marine bio. teacher was mistaken?

I will take back the comment I made about loosing your mind. Since I am not anywhere close to being a marine scientist, I will let others answer your questions.

But I still don't think its gonna happen........(I may be wrong....)
