Has anyone had experience with ordering corals online. The prices look great but what are the mortality rates. One particular site that looks good is flying fish express, has anyone dealt with them. And also what other sites are good to order from. Basically it comes down to is it worth ordering online.

I have had success with Dr Mac, cquarium.com,and themarinecenter.com. Depends on what you are looking for.

FFExpress.com rules! They are absolutely wonderful to deal with. I just got a shipment in from them yesterday with two gorgeous corals and two fish. Take a look at the corals:

I have had an occasional fish or invert end up DOA in transport, or shortly thereafter and they've never failed to issue me credit. I've ordered lights, test kits, fish, inverts, corals, water purification systems, etc. and all their prices are great, as is their service. If you call, ask for Andy - he works in dry goods, but he's my contact, he can sell corals, and he is a real good guy.

I have had good luck for the most part. I have ordered from Dr. Mac, excellent quality and very helpful. these are tank raised as well. I recently purchased a bunch of frags from Aquarium City And was fairly happy with the results. Some really nice frags with great color, a bit small and one came in DOA that I need to mail back in order to get a refund. I have had this frag in my tank seeing if it will come back but no luck. I plan on mailing it tomorrow. Here is a link to my website with pictures of the frags the day I received them.
Aquarium City frags

On the website you can also view some of Dr. Macs frags the day I received them. I prefer to purchase tank raised frags and let them grow in my tank, a bit of a slow process but exactly how I want to do my tank. I am also interested in getting some frags from Rod's Reef and Atlantic Aquatics. Check out their sites. Good Luck and let us know what you decide to do

I've done online from marindepotlive, dr macs, reeftopia, etropicals, frags from ron coleman and coralsandbar. You'll get the most amazing corals this way for sure. Just watch out for shipping, try to order on the same coast. I just got some great deals from Dr Mac but paid $150 in shipping and box charges!!! That was east coast/west coast and several corals/clams. Also be aware some corals are more expsive to ship like a large stag which requires a ton of water. HTH

greenbud, Wow, $150 for shipping. I had 9 coral frags and 1 clam shipped from Dr. Mac in Febuary from East coast to here on the West coast for only $74. what the heck????? I even went back and checked my invoice. That seems really high. Bummer. I am sure you got some really nice stuff though.

i just got a nice order from marinedepotlive. i've also been happy with premium aquatics. btw, i just got back from my LFS and it's a graveyard. dead fish were in the tanks. the ignorant employee said yes when i asked her for underwater epoxy and then pointed out some aquarium silicone. the other employee made eye contact with me when i was in front of the coral/invert tank and finally got her attention. she gave me the 'one second' hand gesture (which looked suspiciously like a brush off). i said 'ok'. she then went to another customer(they didn't need help) so she just went into the back of the store!

i'm pist.

if it wasn't for the online world, i wouldn't even try to have a salt tank.
