I hvae 3 Maxi-jet power heads in my 135. 2 1200 and 1 900. The problem is that one of the 1200's blows a puff of bubbles every 20 to 30 minutes. I have tryed moving it around the tank but it is still the same thing. The other 2 work great. Anyone ever had this problem?

How close it is to the surface of the water? MJ1200 tend to create swirls in the water. Sometimes the swirls will suck air down into the powerhead.

I had that problem with Hagen powerheads, but not with Maxi Jets. I thought that the powerhead was sucking up tiny bubbles from the skimmer, and that they were collecting inside, and then blowing out once it got to large. It's weird that it only happens with 1 out of 3.

Tell me about it. Last night i put the other 1200 right beside it and it works fine. Guess I will just get antoher one and put this one under the tank as a spare but what do you do got to hate those bubbles.

I have to MJ powerheads, a 900 and a 750 (700?). Both also blow bubbles. I did two things which help reduce the bubbles: 1. Take them completely apart and clean them meticulously. I used a toothbrush to scrub all of the surfaces on the intake, the impeller, and the hole where the impeller spins. 2. When you're installing the powerhead, submerge them with the intake up (i.e. upside down), shake the powerhead a little to dislodge any air, then position them where you want it. For whatever reason, only doing both helped; doing only one or the other didn't do anything.

Now, I only get a very slight amount of bubbles when I start the powerhead. HTH

My guess is that one of your fish are just playing with your mind......
One of my maxijets did that for quite a few weeks, and I blamed my bicolour blennie. He's always held a grudge against me for catching him in a net once.

The bubble thing eventually went away.
(maybe 'cause we're friends again)

algea getting shredded and micro bubbles building up until the powerhead burbs them out in a little burst/flurry of bubbles. This is what i gather is the cause of the microbubbles that i've noticed coming out of my submerged pw's.

Any other opinions. thanks for clearing up that little mystery that i've wondered about since i first noticed this going on in my tank.

this board rocks!
