I am interested in what all of you hang-on skimmer users think.Whats the best hang-on skimmer you've ever seen,or used.I know there are alot of differences such as what size tank and bioload. But everyone's opinion is worth a listen.
My turboflotor multi 1000 hang on top unit shut down my Remora pro when ran side by side. The HOT Turboflotor with aqua bee pump is a great skimmer, much better then the sump model. It has a thicker foam and better sized reaction chamber then the remora. Alot of people say life reef HOT models are the best but I have no exp with them so I say the TF.
remora pro for me, too. ive had mine for less than 24 hours... and it already amazes me. i got it with the mag3, and plan on heading to home depot this weekend to work the plumbing in the tank a bit better...
but, overall, i am amazed at what this thing can do. my other skimmer filled the cup with murky, yellow-ish water, no matter how it was adjusted. this beast has half-filled its cup with clumpy, fuzzy, nastiness in just a day.
I've had good performance and gunk collection with a modified (RIO PH replaced with MaxiJet upgrade, biobale removed) CPR BakPak on my 40g. It's been quiet, efficient, and I've had no trouble with the apparent common problem of excessive bubbles released into the tank. My only complaint thus far is it didn't start out modified!

I am hearing alot of votes for ramora pro. I have the ramora on my 50 gallon reef. It seems to be great but so many of you have the ramora pro I'm now wondering the ramora is undersized for my tank.
IMO the problem with the romoras are the lack of a reaction chamber. They have this long box which most of is used for baffles. I do have the rio running mine though. I also feel they have a lower contact time then some of the others that use a circular chamber. The circular chambers create more of a swirling in the chamber suspending bubbles longer. I believe the lifereef, turboflotor and PM skimmers will all out preform the remora series. I have never got a dark foam from my Remora Pro always light and watery at any level. It is also hard to add a drain on the collection cup if you wanted to. The only reason I dont like the PM skimmers is all the nylon thumb screws, I hate these things.
i have a pm hot 1 i only have a cpr back- pac to compare it to. it blows the back pac out of the water.i just added a waste collector i picked up from andy at my reef and this system is really what i would look for in a hang on.
Remora Pro with a Mag 3 all the way! One thing people don't talk about much with the PM-HOT and other columnar skimmers is that they are more prone to overflow. When you have to adjust the water coming into the skimmer, water going out of the skimmer, and venturi, this is a recipe for a major flood (for peace of mind you have to purchase the waste collecter for the PM-HOT for an additional $70...which makes it more expensive than the remora). With skimmers like the Remora Pro there is no such worry...the same amount of water that goes in comes out of the skimmer (without the gunk). Also no venturi to worry about and Aqua C now offers a drain elbow on their collection cups.
