I've had my semi-cured live fiji rock in my tank for coming up for 2 weeks now and I think it has cycled. Certainly the tests suggest so, although apart from a bit of an ammonia spike I didn't really see much, although I was told that this rock was largely cured when I got it this didn't surprise me too much. Apart from the first few days when the skimmer went mental not too much is being taken out now.

I am now seeing life appear in the form of feather dusters, and tiny outbreaks of green algae of varous sorts. Patches of my glass are getting covered in tiny green filaments of an algae of some sort, but it's too small to tell what at this stage.

I haven't got any other life in there other than what arrived in the rock.

my question is, as I'm going on holiday in about 10 days time for just over 2 weeks, should I leave the system as is, perhaps running the MHs for no more than an hour or so a day, and start adding snails etc when I return, or will the algae have become problematical by then? Should I add some snails etc now and hopethat they have enough food for the next couple of weeks?

Any thoughts gratefully received

you can add a couple snails now-
they are cheap and will keep the algae at bay... the symptoms you describe are normal to a new tank, so just let it be. the more patience you have the merrier things will be
