hi,
i don't know much about skimmers...but i know i need a new system. These 2 are both under $200, which is easiest to use, most durable and efficient?

i have a 75 gallon system and want opinions of which is best (or if anyone has 1 to unload--feel free)

What is your level of reef keeping? Beginner, med, or advanced? Only reason I
ask is because the ETSS products seem a little more touchy.

What I mean is, if you are a beginner, then stay away from ETSS/RD3 type skimmers. They are very touchy, hard to adjust, and not nice to beginners. Do a search and you'll see a lot of people pissed off about them.

Don't get me wrong, at one time, they were the hottest skimmer. However, several other brands are out now which do much better.

I'm in the process of replacing my RD3 now. My first skimmer I ever bought and I'm not happy a year later

My opinion - go with a different brand other than ETSS.

IMO the only PM skimmer thats better than the ets is the bullets= becket skimmers. The venturi skimmers from PM the same size same cost I like the ets better.

I would go with a PM product even if its their Venturi Lineup. They are better by far thean the RD series and EVO series still, and a LFS on the South Shore of Boston uses them, they work exceptionally well, though are for 150g tanks and smaller. A person from one of the reefer clubs actually has a MyReef skimmer, its nice, and you do save some good amount of money, but its still not as nicely built as a PM Bullet. The Bullet has grooved flanges which are much thicker to eliminate salt creep and leaks altogether along with being sturdier, and the countercurrent chamber has curved acrylic corners for less seams in the design, plus the whole skimmer is 1/4 or 3/8 inch thickness, which I dont think the Myreef unit is.Also the PM unit uses a HD SPears gate valve, the myreef uses KBI which has a problem with rust when used submerged IMHO. But to be honest they both do work the same in reality, the PM is just better built still and does have a lot of nice "little touches". In truth you do save about $100 with the myreef, but you can see why its $100 less still regardless.

And here I thought I was the only mass PM dealer. Heh.

I love PM stuff, and not just because I stock it.. makes ETS and especially aqua-c look like they are built by amateurs. I know pretty isn't what truly matters, performance is.. but when you can have killer performance AND good construction.. seems like an easy decision to me. Buy the good one the first time, even if it costs a bit more you'll save money by not having to buy it again later.

I have a PM Bullet, love it.

I also like ETSS, but not the super reef devil.

Myreef skimmers are great too! ANd R&B... Andy redoes the gate valves with a plastic screw = no rust.

While we are on the subject of skimmers. How does the euroreef cs-6 compare to a bullet-2?Can anyone tell me which one is more efficient electrically?and which one removes more gunk???I am trying to finally make a selection but need some more input. Thanks!

Nost: I actually have both a PM Bullet-2 and a Euro-Reef CS6-2(24" just like the bullet 2). The Euro-reef is alot quieter and much more energy efficient by far, the Sedra5000 pump is uses only takes up 50(less than 1 amp) watts, The PM Bullet-2 needs about a Mag 18 or equivalent pump which uses about 150-300 watts of power(or 1.5-3.5 amps depending on pump used). The PM and CS6-2 are honestly about equal in performance, but the Euro-reef does use less electricity and is much quiter to do the same job.
