Got my new Calcium Reactor + pictures !

I got my new Calcium Reactor from Myreef last week. I was originally going to go with the Korallin but the package from Myreef looked much better since it was a dual chamber and I already had a ph problem. The price was also considerably less also. Anyway it came as expected and all the contents arrived in good condition. A few days later I have gotten the hang of getting it tweaked out, but it still is not set perfectly. I am having a problem with bubbles collecting but I am guessing that is from where I have the powerhead located. The Maxi-jet is close to where I have my water dropping from my tank, this is also where my skimmer drops it's return water. I am going to extend the tubes today to try to get that problem fixed. If anyone has the same problem with there reactor please let me know. I was also pleased to notice that my ph is actually going up insted of down. Yesterday it was 8.26 which is a rare thing for my tank. I decided on the 6" tubes with 12" height instead of the 4" tube because I would like it to be able to handle my 225 when I get it. I would recommend this reactor to anyone needing one, well here are the pics.

Looks like a nice product, though I hope you do know that the 2nds chamber will not really help with "ph", it will only allow you to have extra calcium capacity.

MyReef: If you happen to read this thread, I would suggest using 12 nylon screws in the future, it will help eliminate saltcreep problems,which I have heard of people having problems with on some of the larger DIYer's. Which people may or may not experience. 6-8 woill work on a 4" OD tube, but 12 would be optimum for 6" Tubing.

Oh crap - I didn't get a nifty sticker on my calcium reactor. I've had mine for a while now and it works like a champ. I was I new Andy was at MACNA, I would of looked him up.

ARM media sounded like the best so I used that. Here is a picture of the reactor when I first pulled it out of the box, picture did not go in on the first post.

Perc: Since I know you have a bullet skimmer, take off the collection cup, if you notice of the flange there is a ring groove that goes all the way around the flange where the gasket seals, this "groove" helps to crush the gasket and makes a much better seal. MyReef's products dont have that nice cut out groove on the flanged lids like the PM products, therefore making a tight seal harder since there is less pressure being applied now to the gasket. I know of some people who have had serious salt creep going on because of the fact of not enough nylon screws being used(which more would be preferred since no groove has been cut)in addition to no groove,so more are needed to apply more pressure to the gasket.PM's CR622 6"OD reactor also has that nice groove and uses 12 screws for a superior seal that is free from saltcreep probs. I have had quite a few DIYer products when money was tight and noticed some inherant flaws, this being one of them I think, but it may or may not be an issue, but still I think I made a good suggestion to Myreef. 4 more nylon screws will only make a much better seal while raising manufacturing cost by only a few pennies.

Hey, nice unit - looks like it's very well put together. I just recently upgraded the calcium reactor that I've been using for the last couple of years with this unit. It took 3 1/2 bottles of ARM media to fill it up and that's leaving a 4" gap at the top!

I also had a salt creep problem with my skimmer which is also kinda like a DIY...but not really. Anyway, a little plumbers silicone (not the drying type) applied to the flange always fixes it.

Hmmm. I had to go check mine. I don't have the groove and have 15 screws (one piece top). I don't have any salt creep after 3-4 months usage.

Thanks John....When I hear of problems with salt creep I will consider it. When/if I see it, I will change it. You are right, it will add about 50 cents to the cost of the reactor per tube. It's not an issue of money, it's, IMO, called overkill.

Forgive me if I am punchy tonight...I just got back from MACNA...I drove 11 hours....OUCH.

Nice looking reactor. FWIW, I have 8 screws on my Canreef reactor it there is absolutely no salt creep. It is a 6" diameter tube as well. It has been in operation for a few months now. A properly constructed lid will not have salt creep with only 8 screws evenly spraed out. From the many posts I have read, I believe Myreef falls into the properly constructed category.
