Turborflotor Air Tube Maintenance?

I think my in sump TF 1000 is having trouble pulling air in through the black air tube. What kind of maintenance does this require to make sure it skims optimally?

Does adding an air pump fix the problem of the tube getting clogged with salt creep?

Anyone's experience/input would be appreciated.

I added an air pump and it really makes that thing skim!
Then I bought an ETS and found out how a skimmer should work! Spend the money for a real skimmer - you will be pleasantly surprised!

Regular maintenance will keep it clear of salt creep. Pull the skimmer out of your sump and use tweezers or a similar object to clean the tube where the airline connects, this is the biggest problem area. I do that about every 2 months and in between I will microwave a large cup of RO water and let the air line suck it in. P.S. I'm rather happy with it's performance especially considering it's cheap price.

Hi Ryan
Try this it will save you the time and trouble of taking your skimmer out off the sump and cleaning it.
I boil TWP water about 20 ounces in my microwave,then I connect some airline tubing to the airline on the skimmer and place the other end of the airline in the boiling water.If its not to clogged up the skimmer will suck in the hot water and clean itself.I do this once a month even if It doesnt need it.I really hate taking the skimmer out to clean it,and doing this does the trick!

Mine clogs regularly, I think because I dose Kalkwasser. I have to use a syringe to force hot, boiling water down the air tube. It seems to fix the clog. Mine wouldn't skim without the addition of an airpump. I won't buy this skimmer again.
