The reason people cut down the cycle is so that nuisance algae won't effectively utilize the nutrients. However, while you're doing that, you starve any photosynthetic hitch hikers you may have gotten on your rock.

I'd also say you should go with a full cycle

I have a 37 gallon with 3 large pices of live rock and live sand about 2 1/2 weeks old (LR in for one week). I'll be hosting a few easy corals etc ... Have a 55 PC light and a blue actinic strip light. While the cycle is going, how should I light the tank??

Thanks!

I would have the lights on a normal cycle, 12-14hours a day. I don't know of any advantage to changing the light cycle durring the tank cycling period.
