Ok I've never dosed kalwasser in my reef tank before I have maintained alk and cal by adding supplements like reef complete and reef carbonate which I got free.

I just bought some Kalc and have a sitzbath bag and plastic tube which I can regulate flow through which I picked up at the hospital for free when my wife had my newest baby.

So how/what porportions do i mix the kalk in ?what is the purpose of vinegar ? what type of vinegar ? how long do i let the kalk settle ?
Can I use the sitzbath bag to construct a drip system ?

great thread tangirl thx for deflowering my post.

Now the question is can the vinyl sitzbath bag be used with kalk and vinger or will these somehow react to the bags composition ?

UMMM>>>>> well its kinda hard to explain in polite terms but........

Basically it has the same composition as an IV bag material wise and has a long tube attached with a device to regulate flow. But its purpose is basically to clean hard to reach unmentionable areas sortof from the inside out if you get my drift

Women recieve them when they have babies to keep areas clean that may have been cut due to an episiostimy(<<<real bad spelling) you put 2 & 2 together from there.

And by the way it works great drips about 1 drop per sec once I got it adjusted.

Hehehe -- tangirl said I was "awesome" -- hehehe (schnork, schnork) hehe....

I haven't entirely left the board -- it's just that my "day job" has been absolutely nuts since 9/11, so I've mostly just been "lurking" when I get a spare moment, and not getting directly involved in too many threads.

There's a lot of good information on kalk dosing and kalkwasser at Nathan's site (where's he been lately anyway... busy bastard no doubt).

Rich,
The simplified answer is use two teaspoons of kalk per gallon of RO water. I read you can use upto 12ml per liter, but you should start with 1/4 of that to see how your tank handles it. That means start with 15ml of vinegar (normal white vinegar) per galloon.
I find in the summer when my evaporation is much higher, the vinegar is not necessary. I only use it when I'm not evaporating that much in the cooler months. HTH

My coraline took off right after I started dripping kalk too. My glass and equipment is covered but my rocks are still bare. I don't get it.
