I have noticed lately everytime I mix up a batch of IO I end up getting some brown residue at the bottom of the bucket. At first, I thought it may be dust getting into the water and settling on the bottom, but it is happening everytime now. Anyone else notice this?

I sometimes find small white particles after mixing up IO (and some other salts as well.)How long do you leave it after you mix it up?

I mixed it a couple of days ago. It's in a 5 gal pickle bucket with an airstone.

I saw a thread about this not too long ago, with similar concerns.

I don't recall many of the details, but essentially, if the tank is stable, the inhabitants healthy, I don't see that a small amounts of residue is a problem. I would simply strain it out, or not draw water from the bottom of the mixing tub.

I also use IO, but have never seen residue. Perhaps the IO is reacting with something in the water?

I have been using IO for years and have never gotten any brown residue. I have similar experiences as tszetela: I get a white residue for the undissolved salts.

I know that that is not much help. My only other suggestion is to try another container besides that pickle bucket. Maybe something is leaching from the plastic?
