What is a good homeade material for a reflector which will house a 250W MH and 2 96W 7100k PC's. Is this a good idea, or should I go with a spider or something?

I got the polished aluminum reflectors from Champion Lighting with my Halides, and while a good product in itself, I think provides inferior reflection to a more advanced and curved reflector such as a Spider Light, or similar product. The drawback to those kinds is, they come in a fixed size, and add more contraints to your mounting and positioning options. I plan on redoing my hood this winter to specifically accomodate angled reflectors (as well as a few PC's ;-) If I were starting over from scratch, I would recommend getting some decent reflectors.
From a strictly "Cheap" perspective, you could probably find some polished aluminum at the Hardware store that would work fairly decent. You really want it to have a mirror-like finish. Just bend it in an arc, from the center of the bulb, out to the side, do this for both sides of the bulb. Halides give off light in 360 degree's, if you're only using half of that, it's your own fault.

Finding good mirrorlike aluminum in a hardware store can be hard. Definately do NOT use flashing. It's too buffed and diffuses the light so much that a lot of it doesnt't make it into your tank. Believe it or not, painting the inside of your hood with a flat white paint works better than flashing. Do that as a last resort.
